Miss Lake Festival 2009 to attend Red Cross Blood Drive

Cayla Hellwarth supports local blood donors.

Local beauty queen and Red Cross supporter, Cayla Hellwarth, will attend the American Red Cross blood drive on Saturday, Oct. 24th, at the Burkettsville Shelter House.  Ms. Hellwarth chose the Red Cross and blood donation as her charity platform during the 2009 Miss Lake Festival Pageant.  “I chose the American Red Cross as my platform to raise awareness about how people can give the gift of life,” said Hellwarth, who has been a blood donor since 2008. “I would like more people to get involved with blood donation.”

The blood drive will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 8 a.m. until 12 noon at the Burkettsville Shelter House, which is located at 100 W. Main St. in Burkettsville.  All presenting donors at this blood drive and select drives throughout the region will be entered into a regional drawing to receive two tickets to the OSU vs. Michigan game on Nov. 21, in addition, all presenting donors will be provided free babysitting during their donation.

The American Red Cross relies on the generosity of blood donors to supply over 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply. In our area alone, 500 pints of blood are needed every day to meet patient need.  For more information or to schedule a blood donation appointment, call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE.
